Bake sale for Japan

Bake sale for Japan was organized on 2nd April, 2011 at San Jose. It gave me a wonderful opportunity to meet fellow San Jose-ites who showed their spirit by spending the entire week organizing the whole thing. I also met R of Magpies recipes and S of Art of cooking. They baked amazing goodies for the bake sale and R gifted me few goodies and also a black necklace she made it herself. Awww! I was so touched. We were hanging out for 4 hours, chatting and munching few baked delicacies. We also learned to make origami cranes. Special thanks to the volunteers who patiently taught us on how to get it right. The venue looked so colorful and lively, with journalist capturing the moments and interviewing the bakers and organizers. There were tons of cute kids running around and asking their parents to buy the cakes, cookies and cupcakes. On the whole, I had a lovely time.

The bake sale was a huge hit and we raised a grand total of $8985.43. I am so proud of this community. Kudos to all the bakers, customers, our wonderful host - Roy's station, SJ and the volunteers. Check out the pictures shared by Magpie recipes. Thanks R for sharing it with me.

Few volunteers taught me how to make origami cranes. The plan was to make 1001 cranes and sent it as a good wish for the people of Japan.

Wikipedia defines origami as: Origami is the traditional Japanese art of paper folding, which started in the 17th century AD at the latest and was popularized in the mid-1900s. It has since then evolved into a modern art form. The goal of this art is to transform a flat sheet of material into a finished sculpture through folding and sculpting techniques, and as such the use of cuts or glue are not considered to be origami.
